Photo North’s Photowalks continue at Sairaalanrinne this Spring

24.2.2026

In 2026, the Photowalks will be located in the Sairaalanrinne area. The landscape and environment of the Sairaalanrinne area will undergo major changes with the demolition of the old university hospital building. The Kaupunginoja, or Hirosenoja, which will become Plaanaoja, also flows through Sairaalanrinne and the surrounding Park area, which is part of the National Board of Antiquities’ list of nationally significant built cultural environments. The walks will consider different perspectives on the area, which will be compiled into a booklet in autumn 2026. In addition, an outdoor exhibition will be produced from the images from the photowalks, which will spread throughout the Sairaalanrinne area in late 2026.

Photowalks are a gentle, critical and new way to explore and observe the environment. You can walk together or separately after a short gathering. Walking with or without a camera. There are no actual photography tasks, but participants take photos from their own starting points. The meetings start in front of the Kastelli multi-purpose hall, at Sairaalanrinne 5. You can participate in the photowalks once or more and they are free of charge. Photographers of all levels are welcome. Photowalk is a collaborative project between Photo North – the Northern Photographic Centre and Valve Urbarn Nerighbourhood Culture. The photo walks are led by visual artist Tuomo Kangasmaa.
