Adaptation: guided tour by the curators

Date

18.10.2026–

18.10.2026

What could adaptation be instead of submission to the situation? What if adaptation is a wild rebellion? The exhibition curators will guide participants to the exhibition’s themes and works on 18 October at 2 pm and explain how an entity has been built on the second floor of the Oulu Art Museum, where art, science and local knowledge meet. The tour is in Finnish and lasts approximately 60 minutes.

The exhibition examines adaptation from the North. In the North, changes in the environment, climate, livelihoods and technologies become visible in many ways. At the same time, the North has a long history of responding to change, local knowledge, survival skills and ways of living with a changing environment.

The tour will introduce you to the works of seven artists or pairs of artists in the exhibition, who examine adaptation as an active agency — not as accepting fate, but as a way of questioning and changing prevailing structures. Who or what has to adapt? Who dictates the terms?

The event is included in the price of the art museum entrance ticket, free for under 18s. Museum card, Kaiku card and culture vouchers (Epassi and Edenred’s Virike card) are also accepted as payment methods.

The tour is led by chief curator Antti Tenetz and curators Taija Jyrkäs and Darja Zaitsev from Photo North – Northern Photographic Centre.
