This year, 73 galleries from 24 locations are participating in Gallery Week. The event will take place from August 26 to 31, 2025, from Äkäslompolo to Helsinki and from Vaasa to Joensuu. The program includes over a hundred art exhibitions and a wide range of events: openings, workshops, performances, concerts, artist meetings, and guided tours. There will also be a community walk and an art picnic, among other things. Find all the Gallery Week events in Oulu here: www.galleriaviikko.fi
During the event, galleries extend a particularly warm welcome to those who have not visited them before. Gallery Week aims to increase visibility not only for the artists and exhibitions presented by the galleries, but also for the galleries themselves, which are a diverse and central part of the art ecosystem. Photo North – Northern Photography Center exhibitions are open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and admission is always free. As part of the Gallery Week program, there will be an open guided tour at Photo North for the public on Saturday, August 30, at 11 a.m. Curator Darja Zaitsev and artists Jorma Mylly and Ananya Tanttu will be present at the public tour. Gallery Week is a great opportunity to get to know the galleries in your local area, for example by participating in the events they organize.
The aim of Gallery Week is to spread the word about galleries operating in different parts of Finland and to encourage new audiences to cross the threshold into a gallery. Gallery Week also strengthens cooperation between art galleries. Throughout the rest of the year, participants are brought together for tailored training and workshops.
Gallery Week is organized by national artists’ organizations
The event is coordinated by the national visual arts organizations Muu ry, the Finnish Sculptors’ Association, the Finnish Printmakers’ Association, the Finnish Painters’ Union, and the Finnish Photographers’ Association. Their common goal is to strengthen the position and influence of visual artists working in Finland and to support the functioning of the entire visual arts field.
