The director of Photo North, Darja Zaitsev, has been invited Strasbourg for the REFLEX – European Meetings of Photography Festivals and Venues. The purpose of REFLEX is to bring together photography professionals from Finland, Poland, Greece, Italy, Portugal and France and create a Europe-wide network for artists. The participants at REFLEX will compare current challenges, operating methods and aim to bring up new art circles from their countries. Each participating organization will introduce new artists or art collectives from their country to the other organizations. An open screening event about the presentations will also be organized as an evening program. Other exhibitor from Finland is Tampere-based Photographic Centre Nykyaika.
The hosting organization, La Chambre, is also having an exhibition of three young Finnish photographic artists. Two of the artists from Sur le fil – Reunalla -exhibition have exhibited their works at Photo North in 2025. Venla Kaasinen had her exhibition This place is many at our Foyer gallery this spring and Aino Väänänen was one of the artists featured in our Summer exhibition Anticipation. Väänänen’s series Vanishing Point was previously exhibited at Oulunsalo Library as Oulunsalo Soi Chamber Music festival’s Artist Of the Year 2022, which was chosen in collaboration with Photo North. The third artist of the exhibition is Henri Airo, whose project War is a Disaster critically explores the links between militarism and a collective memory of war in Finland. The exhibition is open at La Chambre until 16th of November.
