Pasi Räsämäki’s exhibition Urbarium – A Collection of Urban Finds observes the everyday urban environment and trains the eye to notice the things we encounter in the world around us. Objects found on the streets are brought to the walls of the Photo North – Northern Photographic Centre lobby gallery, playing with scale and giving them a place of honour. What do they say about us? What unintended signs do we leave behind?

In his series of works, Pasi Räsämäki explores the nature of found objects in new environments and their life cycle from utility objects to street rubbish. Urbarium is a term coined by Räsämäki while hunting for his urban finds. While the generally known herbarium is a systematic collection of plants, the urbarium is a collection of finds from the human environment that builds information about our species and the way of life that the items communicate. Räsämäki considers Urbarium a form of archaeology that records the present.
