Pictures of the Month program by Photo North – Northern Photographic Centre (NPC) and Fotonordic announces an open call for the exhibition year 2023.
Exhibition slots are available free of charge in our Lobby Gallery in Cultural House Valve between February 2023 and December 2023. The call is open for both professional and amateur photographers. Open call 1.–31.10.2022. Send your application via Google Form in Finnish or English.
From 2023 onwards the exhibition slots are longer (max. two (2) months) and the openings will be held at the same time as the main gallery’s exhibition openings. In addition, max. five (5) artworks will be shown digitally on screens in Fotonordic Helsinki’s premises in Helsinki (Mikonkatu 7, 00100 Helsinki).

Photo North – Northern Photographic Centre advocates for equality within the field of contemporary photography and representing the diversity of the field. We especially encourage applications from photographers belonging to linguistic, cultural, and other minorities such as race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and of various ages and genders. All information will be processed confidentially. In 2023 we wish to receive applications related to the North (e.g. applicant is from the North or examines the North in their artistic processes).
Pictures of the month program will be selected by Veera Uutinen (Chief Operating Officer, Fotonordic), Darja Zaitsev (director, curator, NPC) and Taija Jyrkäs (producer NPC). The decisions will be announced in mid November.
The exhibition space has a wire hanging system. There is a camera surveillance in the exhibition space. The exhibitor is responsible for the possible production costs, such as printing and framing of the exhibition artworks. NPC provides the exhibition space free of charge, helps the exhibitor in planning, hanging, and marketing the exhibition as well as covers the costs of the opening.
The deadline for applications is October 31st 2022. Send your application via Google Form in Finnish or English. The application should include: exhibition plan, artist statement, CV and images of the submitted photographs, all in one pdf file (max. 10 MB).
